This moral fibre they speak of is our identity, as individuals and as a nation. Our desires have become incredibly superficial, easily influenced, and we have lost the awareness that we are all accountable for where we find ourselves.

Can we dialogue our fears and hurts or will we continue to shout past each other? What is it that we fear so deeply? Can people who have been so deeply wronged begin to see past their hurt and live in peace and forgiveness?

The fears we see now are the result of powerlessness, the result of feeling out of control. Can we dialogue our current situation and restore unity and common purpose? Can we speak about what we have in common and who we really are, instead of focusing on our differences and what we' have become? Because the feeling of being out of control comes from neglecting what we can fix, while obsessing about what we can't.

Our hurts of the past are no excuse for treating each other with disrespect. I forgive another for my own good and not for theirs. It's never about who is right or wrong, it's about treating each other with love and kindness, respecting our differences and celebrating them

The current ideas being threshed about actually could help us become a stronger nation. However, the nation that was the hope for the world has become the addiction capital of the world. It's time to find solutions and not argue. It's time for open mindedness and selflessness. Self, is lovelessness. Love, is selflessness. We cannot let the actions of one ignorant country and one fearful individual rob us of our hope. We must remind ourselves that we are the hope of the world and re-establish this as our national identity, as our individual and collective choice.

Hopefully, this is a good wake up call and we can learn from our past mistakes. It's become quite evident though that we aren't who we say we are, and we're a long way from being where we need to be. But that distance is measured in forgiveness and tolerance, and I think a little bit of intelligence too.
